In Revelation 8:10-11, it is written:
10And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
We have argued that, just like the previous two trumpets, the manifestation of the third trumpet, will be driven by global warming. Given that God has created this world and has seen fit to have our physical world to be governed by scientific forces, we see it as perfectly consistent that God would use global warming as one factor to bring about prophecies in Revelation.
An article in Scientific America supports our arguments and goes into some detail as the mechanism by which global warming will eventually result in one third of the world’s fresh water bodies becoming ‘bitter’ (i.e. toxic and undrinkable) —

There are different types of algae that can bloom and make fresh water toxic and unfit to drink. However, it is the P. rubescens, which thrives under the conditions that a worsening of global warming will bring about. In a ‘normal’ situation, one that has existed since the Permian era, the changing of the seasons caused a mixing of the lake waters which kills off the P. rubescens. After the cold winter weather chills the upper layer of lake water, the warmth of the following spring triggers a mixing of the upper and lower layers of water — the warmer water at the bottom rises and the cooler water of the upper layers sink. As the P. rubescens is pulled down to the lower layers, it basically implodes and dies after sinking 100 meters. This is the natural process by which this toxic algae has been kept under control. However, with global warming, the upper layer of water in the lakes are not being chilled enough given the rise in atmospheric temperatures. When the warmer spring weather returns, the mixing of the lower and upper layers does not happen (or is reduced) and so the toxic P. rubescens algae does not get dragged to the lower levels of the lake, and so it is not killed. When the summer heat arrives, the P. rubescens algae flourishes and it releases its toxins into the water, making the water dangerous to drink. As global warming progresses, and especially when the seventh seal is opened and there is a sudden spike in world temperatures, the lakes of the northern hemisphere will all experience sudden and massive blooms of the P. rubescens algae, making the water ‘bitter’ and undrinkable. In those countries where there are no other alternative water supplies, people will still risk drinking the toxic water, and there will be many deaths, as foretold by Revelation.
I would guess the countries in the northern hemisphere will be hit the hardest — America and Canada, Europe, Russia, India, and China. If you are currently living somewhere that is dependent on lake water for potable drinking supplies, then you should consider back up plans for drinking water supplies. I would assume that boiling and filtering will not be effective in removing the toxins from the water — you will need to move or secure alternative supplies of water. If you own you own home, though you may be mocked, you could consider installing a rain water catching system or just bury some large water containers in your backyard (they would probably need to be buried). I would guess there is no hurry on this but once the sixth seal is opened (and it will be obvious to the whole world when it is), you should start making preparations for your own, off-grid, private supply of water. For those who rent or not in a position to store a large amount of water, perhaps start now to network with your friends and relatives, to find someone whom you could team up with — they supply the land and you help with the muscle to build a rain water catchment system. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
