Over the years, this site has thought out loud about the possible benefits of leaving California.  It would seem that the USGS has reminded us of another.

A recent report from the USGS (the United States Geological Survey) serves as a reminder of the threat of volcanic eruptions in the United States  (it makes one wonder if their annual budget decision is drawing near).  Newsweek decided to sensationalize the report a bit, with a sexy title for the article:

We can only assume that Newsweek is looking for some easy clicks as there is nothing new in the report (we even succumbed and checked out the article).

However, this does bring to mind earlier discussions where we highlighted the supervolcano that lies in northern California — the Long Valley caldera.  Awhile back, a research paper was published that argued that an earthquake would be needed to trigger a supervolcano to erupt.  The argument was that it would take an earthquake to sufficiently damage the caldera lid, causing it to break and unleash a catastrophic eruption.  Given the large number of earthquakes in California, it would seem that the Long Valley caldera would seem like a likely candidate for an eruption.  This scenario would perfectly fit Revelation 6:12:

And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

We have speculated that the great earthquake mentioned in the prophecy, would trigger a supervolcano eruption that would darken the skies and bring about the manifestation of the opening of the Sixth Seal.  It would be fitting that this eruption take place in California, given all the things that are going on in that state (no offense to those Believers residing there).

Live life in the eternal now, but don’t neglect preparations for what is to come.
